SK hynix has developed MRDIMM(Multiplexed Rank Dual In-line Memory Module) specialized for high-performance computing, which enhances bandwidth by simultaneously accessing ranks within a sub-channel based on 16Gb or 24Gb DDR5 SDRAM devices.
Bandwidth Exceeding 8Gbps Easily
Our 16Gb or 24Gb DDR5 MRDIMM operates at a data rate of 8.8Gbps, providing a performance boost of at least 37% compared to other DDR5 products with a data rate of 6.4Gbps. Typically, as CPU computing speeds outpace DRAM processing speeds, a performance bottleneck occurs due to the increasing gap in processing speeds. By developing MRDIMM to offer high bandwidth, we address this *bottleneck, enhancing the performance of servers for AI and HPC.
*Bottleneck: A bottleneck refers to a congestion in traffic flow, often occurring at points like bridges or tunnel entrances with varying road widths, leading to traffic jams due to waiting times at traffic signals. In computing, it denotes a slowdown in system performance and reduced efficiency in processes, typically caused by mismatched grades of components within a computer system.
By facilitating simultaneous operation of two ranks, MRDIMM enables the transmission of 128 bytes of data to the CPU at once, compared to the 64 bytes typically fetched by conventional DRAM modules. This increase in the amount of data sent to the CPU each time supports twice the speed of a single DRAM.
Configurable Capacity Range
MRDIMM utilizes the same 16Gb and 24Gb DDR5 mono-die density as RDIMM, enabling coverage of modules ranging from 32GB up to high-capacity 128GB.
