Shrink fit tool-holders operate on the principle of thermal expansion to hold cutting tools in place.
Shrink fit tool-holders are used in high speed milling (HSM) applications and are known to increase feed rates and tool life for CNC milling operations. They can perform operations such as milling, drilling and boring.
Shrink fit tool-holders use induction heating to thermally expand the tool-holders inside diameter so that the cutting tool shank can fit inside. When the tool-holder cools the thermal contraction grips the cutting tool with tremendous force. When removing the tool the process is reversed.
When selecting a shrink fit tool-holder be sure to specify the shank taper type which applies to all other tool-holders.
