Tool holders serve as supports for cutting tools used in machine tools. Tool holders are used for rotary tooling as well as non-rotary tooling such as on lathes. They can be found in different sizes and mounting styles depending on the type of machine tool and application.
Tool holders are used in machine tool applications to serve turning centers, machining centers, multi-task machining and indexing.
Tool holders come in a variety of different mount styles. For rotary tool holders, there are side-lock holders, collet chuck holders, hollow shank, Morse taper, and shrink-fit holders. Lathe tool holders are mostly static tool holders, meaning that the cutting tool stays stationary as the workpiece turns. The rotary type lathe tool holders use an internal drive system to rotate the cutting tool for multiple function lathes.
Make sure to specify the type of mounting your machine tool conforms to. In addition the type of operation and the size of the work piece determines the selection of the proper tool holder for your machining application.
