Technical descriptionThe Washability and Scrubbing Resistance Tester, Model 494 MC, is a stationary test instrument with a top cover plate for the steel trough and integrated specimen clamping devices. A microcontroller-driven high-precision stepper motor with belt drive produces a periodic linear movement of a swivel-mounted drive frame which holds up to three abrasion bodies, enabling up to three parallel abrasion tests. For tests according to DIN EN ISO 11998 the supplied ISO adapter must be mounted.
Operation and controlsOperation is via keypad and a 6-line display. Parameters and sequences can be adjusted and stored to support repeatable test runs.
- Control of stroke movement (start, stop, reset)
- Setting of test parameters (stroke rate, stroke path, number of double strokes)
- Storage of frequently used test sequences (up to 20 parameter sets)
Purpose and applicationThe instrument is intended for determining washability, scrubbing resistance and cleanability of coatings, in particular dispersion (wall) paints. The wide adjustment range of parameters allows adaptation to additional test tasks such as testing cleaning agents or cleaning solutions.
Principle of testTypically a matt black PVC foil is coated and, if required, soiled in a defined manner, clamped into the device and exposed to the action of a moving scrub body under the influence of a washing liquid.
