Silicon pyranometer for solar radiation measurement Kipp Zonen
Kipp & Zonen is the expert in top level pyranometers with exceptional accuracy. In addition, we also have developed a functional solution for routine measurement of solar radiation; the SP Lite2. Instead of a thermopile, it uses a photodiode for consistent measurements.
SP Lite2 is designed for all-weather measurement of solar radiation. It has a specially shaped Teflon™ diffuser that gives very good directional response and is largely self-cleaning. The detector is a silicon photo-diode, so the spectral response is not as broad or flat as our CMP series pyranometers with thermopile detectors. The standard cable length is 5m with an option of 15m.
SP Lite2 is easy to use. It can be directly connected to voltmeter or data logger. Direct readout in Watts per square meter (W/m²) can be derived from the measured voltage divided by the calibration coefficient.
The photodiode detector has a limited spectral range of 0,4 to 1,1 µm. It is calibrated to see the whole spectrum. But very sensitive to fluctuations in weather. The main advantage of the SP Lite2 is the fast response time. The material warms up immediately, while a CMP pyranometer needs time to take up the surrounding temperature
