Carbo 500 is a low-viscosity epoxy resin with excellent impregnating and wetting properties. It is used for treating carbon, glass, aramid and natural fibres. The product is characterised by the following properties:
- - high transparency
- - low tendency to yellow
- - extremely low shrinkage on hardening
- - very good sanding properties
- - good resistance to weathering
- - high static and dynamic strength
- - free of solvents
Carbo 500 is used in the production and repair of carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) and is suitable for the following processing methods:
- - hand lay-up method
- - vacuum pressing
- - wet pressing
Repairing:
1. - Use a 3 mm drill bit to make a hole at each end of the crack.
2. - Completely remove any loose pieces from the workpiece.
3. - Use P120 to sand off the lamination in and 10 cm around the damaged area until the carbon fibre is exposed.
4. - Clean and degrease using SG-A Eco cleaner.
5. - Cut 240 g/m2 carbon fibre twill weave fabric to the right size to fit the damaged area.
6. - Thoroughly mix Carbo 500 resin : Carbo 500 hardener in the ratio 2:1 (weight or volume) until it is completely homogenous.
7. - Stir the mixture for at least 60 seconds.
8. - Apply the Carbo 500 mixture to the carbon fibre fabric using a brush.
9. - Apply the carbon fibre fabric to the damaged area and press it on.
10. - Apply a further layer of the Carbo 500 mixture to the damaged area.
11. - With the aid of a hot-air gun, remove any air bubbles caused by stirring.
12. - Repeat the steps 10. and 11. five or six times.
13. - After approx. 12 hours the repaired area can be subjected to further treatment (drilling, sawing, sanding etc.).
