What are high-voltage testers used for?High-voltage testing is used to verify insulation and dielectric strength of devices, machines, components and insulating materials. The test applies voltages that do not occur during normal operation. The procedure detects material changes (e.g. degraded insulation properties) and manufacturing faults (e.g. loose terminals or damaged insulation). It also verifies the correct sizing of air and creepage distances and the suitability of insulating materials.
Safety requirementsTypical test voltages are commonly in the range of 1,000–2,500 V; in special cases test voltages can exceed 10,000 V. High-voltage testing can be potentially hazardous for operators; therefore protective measures and safety precautions are mandatory (e.g. according to EN50191 (VDE0104)). All bott testers comply with EN50191 (VDE0104). A comprehensive range of accessories is available to ensure operator protection.
