Overview MBC2K is a microprocessor-controlled electronic motor brake controller designed to manage braking of motors powered from a DC bus. The device activates when the DC bus voltage generated by a braking motor exceeds a preset threshold and diverts the energy to an external braking resistor for safe dissipation.
Main functions and features - Automatic activation on DC bus overvoltage
- Compatible with DC power bus 24…100 Vdc
- Each unit provides up to 2 kW peak braking power; up to 4 units can be synchronized in parallel to reach 8 kW peak
- Active protections against short-circuit, overload and overtemperature
- 7-segment displays and LED for instantaneous DC bus voltage reading (accuracy ±1 V) and error codes
- Simple programming via MENU and SET/RESET buttons
Setup and user interface The unit must be configured before operation. The menu includes three pages navigable with the MENU button; values are adjusted with the SET/RESET button. Configurable items include:
- Brake activation threshold (VTH) — 20 selectable levels
- Hysteresis of the activation threshold — 3 V or 6 V selectable
- Master/Slave mode for single-module or parallel operation (1 Master + up to 3 Slaves)
Front panel indicators and connectors Key elements and connectors:
- SET / RESET: clear errors and modify settings in setup mode
- MENU: enter setup and navigate pages
- Synchronization bus connector for parallel connection of up to 4 units
- Braking resistor temperature sensor connector for optional Klixson sensor (normally closed) — if unused, short the two terminals
- Remote alarm connector: SPDT contact for fault signal
- Braking resistor connector: connects the external braking resistor
- DC bus connector: connects to 24–100 Vdc power bus
- Protective Earth (PE) connector
- Hundreds indicator to extend 7-segment readout above 99
- Braking indicator LED
- 7-segment display: DC bus voltage, menu items and error codes
- Alarm LED: fault indication
Protections and diagnostics The module integrates active protections for safe operation. On fault detection the unit shuts down to prevent uncontrolled current through the braking resistor. Faults are signalled by a continuously blinking alarm LED and an error code on the 7-segment display. An integrated alarm relay (SPDT) enables remote monitoring of module status.
