Example Specification
Mass Concrete: concrete placement with a least dimension that is equal or greater than
4 feet
Ensure:
the temperature differential between the core of the placement and the concrete
surface does not exceed 35 OF (19.5 oc).
Thermal gradient creates thermal stresses > concrete tensile strength + cracking
the temperature at the core does not exceed 1600F (71 oc).
Reason for limit: Delayed Ettringite Formation (DEF)r Expansion and formation of
gaps around aggregate particles.
Install 2-3 sensors at:
Every 200-400 cubic meter of concrete (depending on the size of the pour)
Recommended to position sensors no farther than 10 to 20 meters from one another
(depending on the size of the pour)
Temperature control measures must be maintained until:
(internal or core temp,) — (avg. daily ambient temp.) < 350F
