Description

Overview
The DS4 digital gas sensor module by EC Sense is a compact, energy-efficient sensor module based on printed solid polymer electrochemical technology. Designed for industrial, IoT and portable applications, the DS4 integrates a microprocessor, high-precision ADC and on-board algorithms for low-power continuous monitoring with minimal maintenance. The module is factory pre-calibrated and requires no preheating.

Technology
The DS4 uses a solidified electrolyte printed polymer electrochemical cell with three precious-metal electrodes behind a porous membrane. This solid polymer design reduces leakage risk and improves stability and lifetime in high-humidity and extreme-temperature environments. Gas diffusion into the cell produces a current proportional to concentration.

Integration and data handling
The DS4 provides a UART digital output (3.3 V half-duplex single-bus mode) for straightforward interfacing with microcontrollers and IoT systems. Evaluation kits and test tools (UART or RS485 to USB) support scalable testing and bulk calibration workflows.

Calibration and accuracy
Each unit is factory gas-calibrated and calibration data is stored in the module's microprocessor for plug-and-play deployment. Diffusion-based factory calibration reproduces real-world conditions to improve field accuracy. Pump-suction systems may require secondary calibration depending on device parameters.
