SummaryThreaded hydrocarbon separator cartridge for medium service life. The PETRO-PIT 401 reference replaces the PETRO-PIT 410 since 01/2026. The PETRO-PIT® 401 from SPI® is a filtration cartridge for rainwater contaminated with dielectric oils, designed for small and medium transformer retention pans and sumps.
TechnologyWithin SPI® technology, the PETRO-PIT range is available in different cartridges depending on the fluid to be treated. Thanks to its self-locking system, the filter traps harmful hydrocarbons and helps prevent long-term soil pollution. Its oleophilic and hydrophobic polymer component permanently captures hydrocarbons, natural and synthetic esters while allowing filtered rainwater to flow.
PETRO-PIT® 401 description- Rigid PVC housing treated for UV resistance: increased durability.
- Oleophilic and hydrophobic polymer component: permanently traps hydrocarbons.
- Approximate filtered flow (*) : about 3 to 5 L/min · Approximate saturation (*) : 1 L · Recommended replacement: every 1 to 3 years.
- Hydrocarbon confinement: passive 24/7 operation to prevent contamination of rainwater.
- Temperature tolerance: designed for a wide nominal operating range indoors or outdoors: -60° to +80°C.
- Sealing: compression O-ring ensuring tightness.
- Customization by required flow: available in different sizes and adaptable to ball valves, drains, wall penetrations and many piping systems.
- Easy installation and maintenance: screw-in cartridge; maintenance in a "dry" area: close the valve, unscrew the old cartridge, screw in the new one and reopen the valve.
Applications- Fire-stop retention pans and bespoke retention solutions under transformers (small and medium installations).
- Temporary installations containing dielectric oils or hydrocarbons (flexible retentions under IBCs, temporary storage, mobile equipment, etc.).
- Outdoor substations, photovoltaic skids and BESS platforms exposed to hydrocarbon pollution risks.
Kit and accessories (excerpts)- PETRO-PIT kit: 90° stainless elbow with 1.5" female outlet, 1/4-turn valve (stainless or PVC), optional PFC-44 prefilter, P-PIT401 cartridge and PTFE tape for sealing.
- Recommended prefiltration (to limit clogging): light prefilters (PFC-44) or prefiltration box (PFB-0810) depending on site exposure. Prefiltration foams are refillable to reduce waste.
- BRAD® protective shroud (new for the range): protects filters and prefilters against accidental impacts and preserves sealing and hydraulic performance.
RemarksThe PETRO-PIT® 401 can be used alone or as part of the PETRO-PIT kit. SPI® filters are sensitive to sludge, sand, leaves and other impurities; effective prefiltration is essential to preserve hydraulic performance. At end of life, the filter and prefilter must be managed via appropriate hydrocarbon waste streams.
