Description

Product Overview
Hydrogen recovery membrane modules selectively separate and concentrate hydrogen from hydrogen-containing gas streams produced in refining, petrochemical, ammonia synthesis and related industrial processes. The membrane module is the core separation element; configuration (single- or multi-stage) depends on feed composition, capacity, pressure and product requirements. This description defines the membrane module and its separation role; it does not specify a full system scope. Compression, pretreatment and staging must be assessed against project conditions.

Separation Principle
Separation is driven by a partial-pressure difference across the membrane. In suitable hydrogen-containing mixtures, hydrogen typically permeates faster than larger or slower-permeating species, producing a hydrogen-enriched permeate while heavier or slower components remain on the high-pressure side. Final separation performance depends on feed composition, pressure, temperature, flow rates, product specification and recovery targets.

Typical Applications
  • Refinery & Petrochemical Off-Gas: Recover a hydrogen-enriched stream from hydrogen-containing off-gas for reuse or further processing, subject to downstream requirements.
  • Ammonia Purge Gas: Concentrate hydrogen from purge streams for reinjection or plant use as defined by site boundaries.
  • Methanol Process Streams: Treat suitable hydrogen-containing streams in methanol production for hydrogen recovery or composition adjustment.
  • Syngas Adjustment: Apply selective separation to support hydrogen-ratio adjustment in compatible syngas streams.

Process Considerations
  • Obtain the complete feed composition and its variability, with attention to droplets, particles, condensable hydrocarbons and contaminants that may impair membrane performance.
  • Inlet pressure, temperature and flow rate determine driving force and influence required membrane area and configuration.
  • Assess product composition targets, allowable hydrogen loss and recovery objectives together; multi-stage membranes or hybrid systems may be needed to meet specifications.

Information Required
  • Complete feed-gas composition and expected variation range of key impurities
  • Feed flow rate, inlet pressure and temperature
  • Target product composition and intended downstream use
  • Allowable hydrogen loss or desired recovery percentage
