Description

Product overview
Nitrogen used as an assist gas for laser cutting displaces oxygen and clears molten metal from the kerf. Purity, pressure and flow must be selected according to laser power, material, thickness, nozzle and target edge quality.

Industry requirements
  • Purity and cut quality: required purity depends on material, thickness and target edge quality.
  • Pressure and equipment interface: supply pressure must match the laser equipment interface and specific cutting process.
  • Average and peak flow: continuous consumption and instantaneous peaks must be checked separately to size buffering and storage.

Operating principle
Compressed air is filtered and dried before entering the MRN membrane modules. Nitrogen-rich gas is buffered, optionally boosted, and delivered to the laser equipment gas inlet.

System solution
Systems are configured based on laser power, number of machines, material and thickness, nozzle, target purity, working pressure and average and peak consumption.

Process flow
Compressed air → Filtration → Air drying → MRN membrane separation → Buffer / storage → Optional boosting → Point of use

System components
  • Compressed air inlet
  • Filtration unit
  • Air drying unit
  • MRN nitrogen membrane modules
  • Buffer or storage interface
  • System control and gas outlet interface
  • Optional booster and laser equipment interface

Main features
  • Four KLN models: configured with MRN-4160A or MRN-6160A membrane modules.
  • Peak demand handled by buffer storage and optional boosting sized to the actual consumption profile.
  • Continuous on-site nitrogen supply reduces reliance on cylinders or liquid nitrogen logistics.

Technical parameters (overview)
  • N2 purity: 95–99.9%
  • Pressure dew point: with adsorption dryer option down to −70 °C
  • Reference laser powers: 6 kW / 12 kW
  • Typical cutting materials: carbon steel, galvanised sheet
  • System options: buffer storage, boosting and automatic control
  • Selection inputs: laser power, material, thickness, nozzle, pressure and peak flow

Models & reference data
Data below are from validated laser cutting nitrogen system references.
