Description

If you are looking for a classic and reliable casting method, Gravity Casting is definitely worth considering. Unlike high-pressure casting, it relies entirely on gravity, allowing molten metal to naturally flow into the mold and form the parts you need. Whether you require a solid machine tool base or a massive ship housing, this process can provide you with reliable, stable, and cost-effective solutions. What is Gravity Casting? As the name suggests, Gravity Casting uses the force of Earth’s gravity to complete the pouring process. All you need to do is tilt the ladle of molten metal slowly, and the metal will naturally flow into the pre-made mold (commonly sand molds or metal molds). Compared with high-pressure die casting or low-pressure casting, Gravity Casting offers you several advantages: Simpler Process – You don’t need complex pressurizing systems, which saves you equipment investment and maintenance costs. Smoother Filling – The metal flows more slowly and controllably under gravity, making it easier for gas to escape and reducing defects. Broader Applications – It is especially suitable for producing castings with thicker sections, relatively simple structures, and large sizes or heavy weights. Now that you understand the principle, you may wonder: how is this process actually carried out in the factory? How the Gravity Casting Process Works At MATSON METAL, we follow a proven five-step process to complete Gravity Casting for you: Mold Making – We make molds according to the shape of your part. For small batches, we use sand molds; for large batches, we use reusable metal molds.
