What is Powder Metallurgy?
The principle of powder metallurgy can be visualized as a combination of “making ceramics” and “baking bread.” It involves two magical core stages:
1. Compaction: We first take metal powders (like iron, copper, etc.) and uniformly blend them with binders and lubricants according to a precise formula.
2. Sintering: This is the critical step that gives the part its life and strength. We place the green compacts into a high-temperature furnace with a controlled atmosphere (to prevent oxidation).
