Description

Overview
NEON Sonic is a LoRaWAN-enabled acoustic and temperature sensor for continuous monitoring of steam traps and critical steam-system assets. It combines an acoustic probe and temperature sensing in a single industrial-grade device to deliver near real-time condition monitoring, automated alerts, edge diagnostics and long-life battery operation for hazardous and harsh environments.

Primary benefits
  • Replace manual inspection with scheduled and event-driven measurements to enable proactive maintenance and reduced operational downtime.
  • Edge diagnostics identify trap faults (blocked or leaking) and simplify integration of diagnostic outputs into existing asset management systems.
  • Available ATEX / IECEx Zone 0 and HazLoc Class I Division 1 certification options for safe use in explosive atmospheres.

Key features
  • LoRaWAN transmitter combined with acoustic probe and temperature sensor.
  • Measures sound pressure level (SPL), process temperature and ambient temperature.
  • Process temperature capability up to 450°C with extension accessory.
  • Certification options: ATEX / IECEx Zone 0, HazLoc Class I Division 1 (where required).
  • Up to 14 years battery life (depending on operating profile and environment; measured at 25°C).
  • Global LoRaWAN compatibility with support for multiple regions and frequency bands.
  • Edge Intelligence spectral analysis for steam trap fault detection (blocked or leaking conditions).
  • Firmware update over-the-air (FOTA) compliant with LoRa Alliance specifications.
  • Industrial design: IP65 ingress protection, wide operating temperature range, robust mounting including pipe-clamp option.

Use cases
  • Continuous steam trap monitoring to reduce energy losses and unplanned shutdowns.
  • Integration with DCS/SCADA and existing back-end systems for operational visibility and analytics.
  • Long-term, low-maintenance deployments across heavy industry sites using private or public LoRaWAN networks.

Additional product information
NEON Sonic supports configurable event-based messaging (timer, button press, steam-trap condition), adjustable measurement intervals with 1-minute resolution and configurable message-send conditions (always or on condition). Time synchronisation across multiple sensors is supported (accuracy ~12 ms). Device configurations include integrated mounting assemblies, front-mounted and separate sensor/housing variants to suit installation requirements.
