Product overviewThe Dump Tube System from IMI enables safe, controlled steam discharge into condensers in turbine bypass applications. Designed as a fixed-orifice device, it reduces steam pressure downstream of the bypass valve to condenser pressure. Each tube is engineered to match specific plant conditions, ensuring optimal performance and protection of condenser and turbine internals. The design eliminates the need for additional cooling within the condenser and allows accurate feed-forward control via the customer's DCS. Optional two-stage layouts are available and the dump tube can also act as a flow meter. The system reduces noise and thermal stress, cuts installation cost through short piping runs and combined sizing of the bypass valve and dump tube, and enables predictive thermal control with integrated feed-forward algorithms for spray water regulation.
Key features- Fixed-orifice, pressure-reducing design
- Custom sizing for each installation
- Compatible with water- or air-cooled condensers
- Can function as a flow meter
- Supports single or two-stage layouts
- Alloy steel construction (stainless optional)
- Designed for feed-forward control systems
- Welded to downstream steam pipe for compact piping footprint
Applications and benefitsSafe, controlled steam discharge into condensers in turbine bypass scenarios; reduces noise and protects internals by splitting pressure across fixed stages; enables accurate thermal control and predictive spray water regulation; lowers installation cost by reducing piping length and allowing combined sizing of bypass valve and dump tube.
