Although passivation is not actually a plating/coating, this supplemental treatment is sometimes required by the application. KATO passivates inserts in accordance with AMS2700. KATO does not make it standard practice to passivate active stainless steel CoilThread inserts. This minimizes the possibility of galvanic corrosion occurring when they are installed in aluminum or magnesium parent materials. The suffix “A” is added to KATO part numbers (ex. 2TLC-02C-0086A) to signify the passivation requirement.
