Description

Product Overview
Co-rotating parallel twin-screw extruders are widely used in plastic modification, polymer processing, and pharmaceutical applications such as hot-melt extrusion, granulation, lipid extrusion, transdermal preparations, implantable preparations, and 3D printing extrusion. As a Sino-German joint venture, Lemix provides high-quality twin-screw extruders with advanced processing technology, GMP-compliant design, on-site engineering, and validation services.

Description
Twin-screw Extruder Configuration and Continuous Extrusion Process: Extrusion technology is a recognized continuous manufacturing process in the pharmaceutical industry, integrating feeding, melting, venting, and discharging. Upstream material handling and downstream equipment are connected with the extruder to complete the production operation. A typical twin-screw extruder configuration incorporates modular process units and continuous material flow management.

Design Highlights
  • CIP cleaning kit simplifies cleaning operations: insert the cleaning hose into the adapter port and flush the screw and barrel with water.
  • Screw elements and barrel are detachable and can be cleaned in a washing machine.
  • Barrel operating device: after disconnecting process units they can be easily disassembled using special barrel tools.
  • Modular machine design enables quick assembly and disassembly.
  • Heater housing with stainless steel mirror polishing treatment.

The Lemix Control System Enables
Data acquisition and status monitoring of field-level pharmaceutical machinery and production lines. The system provides comprehensive user authority management and security strategies, including:
  • Audit trail
  • Electronic signature
  • Recipe management and batch record reporting
  • Recordable and traceable entire operation process
  • Encrypted, tamper-proof database files in a proprietary format
  • All data modifications logged
  • Historical data backed up locally and remotely to ensure data integrity and security

Applications
  • Hot Melt Extrusion (HME): Process for dispersing APIs into polymers (e.g., PVP, methacrylates, cellulose-based carriers). PROMIX equipment homogenizes materials and applies high shear to disperse the drug at molecular level; extrudate is cooled and solidified. HME enables improved dissolution and bioavailability for poorly soluble drugs (Class II and IV).
  • Solid Lipid Extrusion: Cold extrusion using lipid matrices to produce plastic masses. Suitable for thermosensitive APIs due to low melting points; no additional solvents required.
  • Granulation: Continuous twin-screw granulation for wet extrusion, wet granulation and melt granulation. Enables efficient agglomeration, extrusion through dies for spheronization (pellets) or direct granules; mixing intensity adjustable to produce pellets with various properties.
  • Transdermal Preparations: HME applied to topical dosage forms including implants and transdermal patches.
  • Pharmaceutical 3D Printing Process: Melt extrusion deposition after mixing API and excipients to form printed structures.
