Description

PMMA acrylic (Polymethyl Methacrylate) was invented by Dr. Otto Röhm in the 1930s. Also known as Plexiglas or Acrylic Glass, it stands out as one of the world’s most refined and versatile plastics. Renowned for its elegance, brilliance, and vivid color fidelity, it offers unmatched aesthetic appeal and practical utility. Transparent Plexiglas is a plastic material composed of methyl methacrylate polymers (polymethyl methacrylate or methacrylate). It is exceptionally clear and lighter in weight compared to traditional glass. Its remarkable transparency makes it comparable to optical fibers in clarity. Key features include: Shatterproof and durable composition Versatility in application Resistance to yellowing and deterioration over time Availability in various colors upon request Applications: With its high hardness, rigidity, excellent optical properties, and weather resistance, PMMA is well-suited for thermoforming and bonding. Frequently, it serves as a substitute for glass in various uses, ranging from architectural elements to display cases, where durability and clarity are critical. Data sheet Transparent Acrylic (PMMA) has the following properties: Cast Acrylic: Completely colorless and clear Resilient Unmatched resistance to wear and weather High-quality and flat surface; available in glossy, textured (Trend Structure), or matte finishes Good resistance to diluted acids and bases Limited resistance to organic solvents Very easy to process, similar to hardwood Excellent thermoforming across a wide range of working conditions Strong and reliable bonding, e.g., with polymerizing adhesives (e.g., ACRIFIX® 192)
