Description

Overview The RPS-409A-IS3 is an intrinsically safe analog ultrasonic sensor available in multiple sensing ranges. It is intended for use in hazardous gas or dust environments (Class I, II, III) when installed with approved intrinsic safety barrier(s). The sensor is housed in a 30 mm barrel-style PVC enclosure and is designed for integration with PLCs and analog input cards. The RPS-409A-IS3 provides a short-circuit protected 0–10 Vdc analog output scaled to the unit's maximum range. Built-in temperature compensation, an LED target indicator, and a Sync/Tx line for multi-sensor synchronization or transmit control are included.

Functional description The analog voltage output is linear and scaled as volts per inch based on the selected model range (example: RPS-409A-80-IS3 = 0.125 V per inch; target at 10 in → 1.25 V; at 80 in → 10 V). The sensor is powered from 16–30 VDC with reverse polarity protection (note: a minimum of 24 VDC must be applied to the intrinsic safety barrier). Input current and output loading constraints apply for intrinsic safety installations. The Sync/Tx line enables synchronization of multiple sensors to avoid cross-talk or to control transmit timing for advanced installations.
