Product Overview
BSTFLEX Multi-Layer Stainless Steel Mesh Flange Guards combine an external metal band with an internal layered stainless steel mesh insert to provide spray-protection at industrial flanged connections. The mesh is positioned around the joint to interrupt a concentrated leak jet while the removable closure provides access during planned maintenance. Guard dimensions, stainless steel grade and mesh construction are specified against the flange geometry and service conditions.

Why the Internal Mesh Matters
The outer band surrounds the flange perimeter while the multi-layer mesh is positioned on the inside of the guard around the joint. Its purpose is to interrupt and distribute a concentrated leak jet rather than leave the release acting directly against a plain metal surface. Protective performance depends on the complete construction, fit and service conditions; mesh grade, arrangement, coverage and retention should be included in the agreed product specification. This product is an external spray guard, not a pressure-retaining enclosure or a repair for a failed flange connection; it does not replace the sealing function of the gasket, flange faces and bolting.

Three Parts of the Guard Assembly

• Stainless Steel Outer Band: The formed metal band fits around the outside of the flange assembly. Diameter and band width are matched to the connection to avoid interference from bolts, nearby equipment or existing insulation.
• Multi-Layer Stainless Steel Mesh Insert: The internal multi-layer mesh is positioned inside the guard around the joint. The mesh must remain correctly positioned in the assembled cover; its dimensions, arrangement and attachment details are defined in the approved configuration.
• Removable Closure: A latch closure allows the assembly to be opened for fitting and removed during planned maintenance. Closure design and component materials are confirmed together with the band and mesh requirements.

Material and Application Selection
Specify the required stainless steel grade for all relevant components, including the mesh and latch. Do not assume that identifying the outer band material automatically defines the material of the complete guard. Typical duties include steam, fuel oil, lubricating oil and diesel systems; each application requires review of the medium, operating conditions, connection geometry and protection objective before a configuration is selected. For projects with special environmental, marine or inspection requirements, include those requirements in the initial specification so any required qualification or test documentation applies to the supplied assembly and its stated conditions of use.

Fit the Mesh Guard to the Actual Connection
Provide the flange standard, nominal size and pressure designation together with a drawing or measured dimensions. The outside diameter, assembled width, bolt projections and surrounding space are important inputs for sizing the guard. Photographs showing front and side of the connection and a flange schedule for multiple installations are useful for reviewing sizes and access restrictions.

Installation and Maintenance Considerations
Installation must follow the approved assembly instructions and the site safe-work procedures. Authorized personnel should make the connection safe before fitting or removing the guard. Do not approach an active leak to install or adjust a cover. Check the guard size and position the mesh according to the approved drawing. Secure the closure without forcing the band or displacing the mesh. Keep any specified inspection, drainage or venting provisions unobstructed. During scheduled inspection, examine the band, mesh and latch for damage, corrosion, contamination or displacement; continued use must be assessed against the condition of the complete assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Is this a mesh-lined guard or a cover made only from wire mesh? The construction combines an outer metal band with an internal multi-layer stainless steel mesh insert; the mesh and the surrounding band are specified as parts of one guard assembly.
• Does adding mesh give every flange guard the same protective performance? No. Performance must be assessed for the actual materials, mesh arrangement, coverage, fit and service conditions. A mesh insert alone is not evidence of a particular pressure rating or mist-control result.
• Can the flange pressure designation be used as the guard pressure rating? No. The flange designation identifies the piping connection. Any required spray-shield performance or testing must be specified separately for the complete guard assembly.
• Can these guards stop an existing flange leak? They are not offered as leak-repair devices. A leaking connection requires the appropriate isolation, inspection and repair procedures. Spray protection does not restore the integrity of the flange seal.
