OverviewMeldin® Polyimides are engineered polyimide (PI) materials formulated for continuous operation at elevated temperatures, controlled friction and superior dimensional stability. Supplied as stock shapes or precision-machined components, they are used where long life under high load, speed or aggressive environments is required.
Available formats and typical parts- Stock shapes: sheets, rods, tubes
- Finished machined components: bearings, bushings, piston rings, vanes, guide rings, thrust washers, wear parts and custom geometries
Industries / Applications- Aviation: seals, bearings, insulators
- Space: reusable and cryogenic components, leakage control
- Semiconductor: thermally stable, purity-critical components
- Industrial: pumps, valves, pistons, bearings and other wear components
Grades and material families- Meldin® 2000 series — legacy range: high tensile and compressive strength with strong dimensional stability
- Meldin® 6000 series — PI-based: self-lubricating options, durable at elevated temperature and load, chemical and radiation resistant
- Meldin® 7000 series — thermosetting PI: extremely high dimensional stability at elevated temperature (examples: Meldin® 7001, 7021)
- Meldin® 8000/9000 series — porous, lubricant-filled PI structures for bearing cages and low-friction components
Features & benefits- Continuous use at elevated temperatures (materials available for sustained service up to ~600°F / ~315°C depending on grade)
- Exceptional dimensional stability (example: <0.04% variation after thermal cycling 73°F → 500°F for selected grades)
- High wear resistance and controlled friction; selected grades provide self-lubrication
- Options for reinforced, low-friction and load-optimized formulations
- Total process control from powder to finished part including precision machining
- Extended component life under higher loads and speeds versus many alternatives
Technical performance examples- Continuous service temperature: up to ~600°F (≈315°C), grade dependent
- Dimensional stability example: <0.04% change after thermal cycling 73°F (22.8°C) → 500°F (260°C) over 48 hours (reported for Meldin® 7000 series)
- 6000 series: long durability under high temperature/load; chemical and radiation resistance
- 8000/9000 series: porous, lubricant-filled microstructure for bearing cages and low coefficient of friction
