Description

Overview
Meldin® polyimide materials provide high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures and a controlled balance of wear resistance and friction. These PI-based formulations are used where long-term performance under thermal, mechanical and chemical stress is required, including aerospace, semiconductor and industrial systems.

Formats & Forms
  • Stock shapes: sheets, rods, tubes
  • Finished machined components: bearings, bushings, wear parts, guide rings, vane elements, thrust washers
  • Custom-designed geometries and near-net shapes

Applications
  • Aviation and aerospace components
  • Space systems and satellite mechanisms
  • Semiconductor process and handling equipment
  • Industrial components (pump & valve parts, piston rings, wear strips)

Material Series (examples)
  • Meldin® 2000 PI Based — legacy range: good tensile and compressive strength with stable dimensional behavior.
  • Meldin® 6000 PI Based — self-lubricating grades for extended service under high temperature and load; improved chemical and radiation resistance.
  • Meldin® 7000 PI Based — thermosetting polyimide series with extremely low dimensional change on thermal cycling.
  • Meldin® 8000/9000 PI Based — porous, lubricant-filled formulations for bearing cages and low friction applications.
  • Specific formulations such as Meldin® 7001 and 7021 are available for tailored high-performance requirements.

Key Features & Benefits
  • High continuous operating temperature capability (materials rated for extended use at elevated temperatures)
  • Exceptional dimensional stability under thermal cycling
  • Wear resistance and controlled friction for long service life at higher loads and speeds
  • Total process control from powder to finished component
  • Direct forming and precision machining available for selected grades
  • R&D-driven formulation support and collaborative engineering for customization

Resources
  • Manufacturer datasheets and handbook available as downloadable PDFs for material selection and properties.
  • Technical videos and supporting documentation describe Meldin® origins and processing guidance.

Technical specifications
  • Continuous operation capability to high temperatures (materials stated capable of operations up to ~600°F / ~315°C depending on grade).
  • Meldin® 7000 series: demonstrated dimensional variation under thermal cycling of less than 0.04% when cycled from ~73°F (22.8°C) to 500°F (260°C) over a two-day period.
  • Available in multiple PI-based formulations (2000, 6000, 7000, 8000/9000) optimized for tensile strength, self-lubrication, wear resistance, low friction, and chemical/radiation resistance.
  • Offered as stock shapes (sheets, rods, tubes) and as precision-machined parts (bearings, rings, vanes, thrust washers, custom geometries).
