The plate connectors are pre-bent so that no damaging bending forces can occur in the plates even with the maximum permissible curvature caused by the belt tension. From a technical point of view, the hinged connectors are the better connection for the belts; as the plate connectors are subjected to a point load (upper part of the connection), they are less flexible than the hinged connectors. The low weight of the connectors reduces the development of practical centrifugal forces when the pulley is rotating at high belt speeds. This ensures smooth, shock- and impact-free running.
