Measurement angles & context
  • 45° measuring angle: speciality angle recommended for plastic films and solid plastic parts (in accordance with ASTM D2457 and ASTM C346)
  • 60° measurement angle: universal reference angle suitable for most gloss levels
  • 20° measurement angle: acute angle for improved resolution on high gloss surfaces (used when surfaces measure ~70 GU and above at 60°)
  • 85° measurement angle: grazing angle for low gloss surfaces and textured/uneven surfaces (recommended when surfaces measure less than ~10 GU at 60°)
  • Gloss is measured in gloss units (GU) and is traceable to reference standards
