The Novo-Gloss 60° glossmeter is suitable for measuring gloss in most applications from matt to high gloss finishes. This high-specification handheld glossmeter is suitable for use in laboratory and production areas and is intended for general gloss control across substrates and industry sectors including paints and coatings.

Measurement & angles
Gloss is measured by projecting a defined amount of light onto a surface and quantifying the reflected light. The illumination/detection angle is selected according to surface type and gloss level to provide repeatable, traceable results.

Gloss measurement angles

• 20° — High gloss surfaces (improved resolution for surfaces measuring ~70 GU and above at 60°)
• 60° — Universal/reference angle for most gloss applications
• 85° — Low gloss / grazing angle for surfaces measuring less than ~10 GU at 60°; larger measurement area for textured surfaces
• 45° — Specialty angle used for certain standards (e.g. ASTM D2457) and specific plastic/ceramic tests
