Machine tap made of cobalt-alloyed and vaporised high-performance high-speed steel, with overflow shank for through threads. For through threads in unalloyed and alloyed steels up to 1000 N/mm² strength, VA metals. The thread is cut in a single operation. "Vapourisation" refers to the deposition of a non-metallic oxide layer. Vapourisation acts as a separating layer and reduces the formation of cold welding. Cold welding refers to workpiece chips that weld onto the flank of the tap and damage the finished thread. Cold welding results in torn and unclean thread flanks. VAP improves the adhesion of lubricants to the tool surface.
