The PD 4020L partial discharge tester can be used to measure partial discharges as well as insulation voltage. Whether testing individual insulating materials, such as plastics or coatings, or testing powertrain components, such as stators or connectors; whether in the laboratory or on the production line; whether in small or large-scale production runs: The PD 4020L is suitable for all environments and requirements and delivers precise measurement results.

Partial discharges, induced by an external high-voltage or surge voltage tester, can be measured using active measurement technology, either by radio or inductively. Radio measurement technology is the first choice for open test specimens, such as a stator. For enclosed or shielded test specimens, such as inverters or motors, partial discharges can be measured inductively via the test specimen’s connection cables.

The various measurement methods, tailored to the test specimen, can be conveniently carried out using our DAT 3805 control software. The partial discharge measurement method is designed in accordance with IEC 61934.

Note on calibration for surge testing and partial discharge measurement
Only factory calibrations in accordance with our specifications can be carried out here. For the surge test, this involves checking the generator voltage, measuring (using oscilloscopes) the displayed surge voltage and checking its rise and fall times. For partial discharge measurement, three level values are simulated and tested using our CR 4000 simulator.
