Description

Overview
TDK expands the CN series of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) with new low-resistance soft termination types. The design places resin layers only on the board-mounting side, allowing current paths outside the resin and reducing terminal resistance versus conventional soft termination MLCCs.

Key points
  • Resin layers cover only the board mounting side
  • Original TDK structure achieves both soft termination benefits and reduced electrical resistance
  • High capacitance options: up to 22 μF in 3216 size and 47 μF in 3225 size
  • Available in automotive grade (CNA series, AEC-Q200 compliant) and commercial grade (CNC series)

Product details
TDK extends the CN series with CNA (automotive grade) and CNC (commercial grade) models. The new soft termination reduces terminal electrode resistance while retaining short-circuit prevention characteristics for power and battery lines. Higher-capacitance options reduce component counts and enable more compact PCB layouts. Mass production started in September 2023.

Features & Applications
Main applications
  • Smoothing and decoupling of power lines for automotive electronic control units (ECUs)
  • Smoothing and decoupling of power lines for industrial robots and similar equipment

Main features and benefits
  • Automotive-grade option compliant with AEC-Q200 (CNA series)
  • Higher capacitances for space-saving designs: 22 μF (3216) and 47 μF (3225)
  • TDK’s terminal structure delivers soft termination with resistance comparable to standard non-soft products
