General descriptionThe OCTOPUS system is a vacuum gripping solution designed for high operational flexibility for palletising robots and vacuum gripping systems in general. It allows gripping objects of any shape and nature (except those with excessive transpiration) without having to place or change vacuum cups, and even when the object's surface occupies only about 5% of the entire suction plate. The maximum lifting capacity is proportional to the effective gripping surface. Standard systems may be supplied in customized dimensions and with vacuum tables or vacuum generators different from those indicated in the product tables.
Standard composition- Anodised aluminium box (open on one side) with built-in stainless steel micro-fine mesh filter to protect the vacuum generator and easy inspection.
- One or two compressed air-fed vacuum generators (depending on model); some small OCTOPUS variants include the vacuum generator in the item code.
- Suction plate sealing the box, made in anodised aluminium, with calibrated holes equidistant from each other and coated with special perforated foam rubber to adapt to smooth, rough or irregular surfaces.
- Top outside connections for installation of control devices or solenoid valves for quick restoration of atmospheric pressure inside the box.
Capabilities and typical uses- Grip cardboard boxes, wooden pallets, tomato jars, paint cans, ceramic tiles, metal profiles, thin packaging, bags and other varied objects depending on the selected suction plate.
- Adaptability to very small contact areas (down to approx. 5% of plate surface) thanks to calibrated holes and foam covering.
- Available with different suction plate types and vacuum table configurations to match application needs.
Suction plate families and main features- PX / P2X: Standard suction plates with calibrated holes and perforated foam rubber. Foam thickness: PX = 15 mm (PX for OCTOPUS systems) or 20 mm for gripping bars; P2X = 30 mm (special range). Lifting force calculated at vacuum >= -75 kPa with safety factor 3.
- PH / P2H: Special plates coated with sponge rubber micro-perforated at the holes; recommended for empty cans, tins, jars and vials without lids or caps. Thicknesses: PH = 15 mm, P2H = 30 mm. Not suitable for empty plastic or glass bottles; flexible containers must be vacuum tested to avoid implosion.
- PXE / P2XE: PX / P2X plates with shut-off valves inserted in each hole to automatically close the suction inlet when a hole is not sealed by an object, reducing vacuum generator flow and allowing use in any position.
- PY / P2Y: Special plates that develop greater force and can grip very rough or uneven surfaces; interchangeable with standard plates; designed with perforated foam rubber.
- PY2E / P2Y2E: PY / P2Y plates with shut-off valves in each hole for volumetric/energy efficiency and positional flexibility.
- PV / P2V: Suction plates provided with vacuum cups for better grip on uneven and very flexible surfaces (e.g., pasta or candy bags, blister packs, thin cardboard). Vacuum cup supports: PV = 1/8" gas; P2V = 1/4" gas. Recommended cup diameter limits: PV up to 22 mm, P2V up to 45 mm.
- PVE / PVEDO: PV versions with shut-off valves in each vacuum cup support connection to prevent vacuum loss from defective grips.
- PJ: Bag-gripping plates designed to handle paper or plastic bags (powders, granules, liquids). Special foam seal minimizes deformation and vacuum loss.
