Wabtec has developed and launched the industry leading NextFuel™ product, which is applicable to Evolution Series locomotives as new, or as a retrofittable upgrade. The NextFuel™ kit has the ability to burn gaseous natural gas which is conditioned & supplied to the locomotive from a tender of liquified natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG). In areas where gas supply may be restricted, the NextFuel™ product has the ability to run on full diesel or maximize gas consumption while maintaining the same locomotive performance. Wabtec’s initiated development on a locomotive for a new energy source: natural gas (LNG/CNG) starting in 2012 and have deployed the technology for full production operation since 2018.  This was designed to fit existing Evolution series locomotives, and delivers significant gas subsitituion, increased range and flexibility.
