The Trio membrane keypad is a single unit which brings together all the elements required for an effective man machine interface in one package. This minimises the time taken to mount and connect to other Trio Motion technology control system products.
The unit consists of an IP65 keypad featuring 37 tactile keys, eight of which can be defined by the user and identified by inserting key legends from the rear of the keypad. Incorporated into the units is a four line by twenty character, vacuum fluorescent display. Connection to the control system is via a fibre-optic cable to the Master Controller. The interfacing is handled by dedicated built-in network interface software. The only other connection necessary is for the power supply.

A membrane switch, or membrane keyboard, is most often described as a thin, low profile, micro motion front panel assembly utilizing one or more layers of polyester, with screen printed conductors printed on each layer. The switch assembly is generally built with pressure sensitive adhesives to bond the polyester layers together.
When two or more circuit layers are designed into the switch panel, the adhesive spacers both separate and attach the conductive layers. Additionally, they provide the openings needed to allow for a switch closure between the two separated layers. Other options that are often provided on the front panel include an adhesive mounting sheet to attach the keypad to a housing or sheet metal bracket, and a graphic overlay. The graphic is used to provide the cosmetic appeal that is most often associated with a membrane switch assembly.
Tactile membrane switches are either stamped and plated metal contacts, or embossed polyester contacts, used in conjunction with a front panel assembly. The tactile element is generally part of the switch system: enclosed in the switch assembly to provide a "snap" or tactile response when the switch is actuated.

Lumitex uses sheets of UniGlo Fiber Optic Cloth cut into specific sizes and shapes to create a thin flexible lighting layer that goes between the overlay and the dome switches. The product is typically 0.013" (0.33mm) thick and anywhere from 1 sq inch to over 100 sq inches.
The optical fibers coming off one end of the panel are bundled into a circular ferrule and coupled to one or more LED light sources.
Lumitex Fiber Optic Membrane Switch backlighting provides long life, low power, inert, maintenance free backlighting for all membrane switch, overlay, label, keypad and keyboard designs.
Longer Life - Durable fiber optic panel never needs replacement. Remote light source offers 20,000 to 100,000 hours life and easy replacement.
Lower Power - Sources require less power than EL, or LED Array and no inverter. As low as 5-20mA at 2-4vdc
Compact Size - Panels are thin and sources are smaller than EL inverters.

CTS is a capacitive detection technique that is suitable for various applications. The CTS keypad consists of a front plate on which a capacitive sensor is mounted at the back. Keys are controlled by means of a custom IC with dedicated software.
The front plate can be made of polyester, acrylic glass, glass, or other non-conductive material, and can be printed or not. Dependent on the type of material, it can have a thickness of up to 20 mm.
When using a transparent sensor, capacitive keypads can serve as digital touch screens. The panel can offer a total protection and does resist a high degree of vandalism.

EAO, the expert for Human Machine Interfaces, has in its product range some touch-sensitive keyboards which are extremely tough, versatile and cost effective.
The keyboard operates from under a transparent protective screen that resists cleaning agents and fluids, moisture and dirt ingress, and damage from shocks and impacts , making it suitable for a wide spectrum of applications located in:
• aggressive environments polluted by dust, grease or ink particles suspended in the air, e.g. printing machines.
• sterile environments cleaned using ultrasonic techniques, e.g. medical equipment.
• hygienic environments cleaned using pressure washing, e.g. food packaging equipment.
• explosive atmospheres which must be free of contacts and electro-static discharge.
• public areas susceptible to vandalism, e.g. public-access internet kiosks.
The keyboard is extremely thin, which allows it to be mounted in existing machines. What’s more, the keyboard layout can be designed and configured out-of-box to suit different applications by using the simple-to-use proprietary software. The customer can vary the position of function keys according to their specific needs and alter the sensitivity of the keys according to the material of the protective screen. There is a choice of standard keyboard layouts for 10 different languages, a feature which makes the EAO touch-sensitive keyboard suitable for use across the world.
The keyboard, available with PS2 or USB interface, is compatible with both PC and Apple Macintosh operating systems.

Advanced Input Systems designed this extreme ruggedized keyboard dubbed Grizzly, for its survival abilities, to reliably operate in harsh situations. The durable Grizzly Xtreme withstands environmental usage hazards typical of mobile, rugged, and industrial applications. Users no longer need to compromise wear or performance to benefit from extreme keyboard protection and full functionality.
Well-suited for gloved applications and light pressure typing, the Grizzly Xtreme is an elastomer keypad encased in an upper and lower powder-coated die cast aluminum housing. Waterproof, dustproof and chemical resistant, the housing features a gasket-sealed perimeter along with an area on the bottom for a gortex vent. Wear-proof legends on the elastomer are painted and laser etched with rhino coating for additional protection. A strong performance advantage comes from the Grizzly Xtreme ability to operate in low light environments due to LED backlit legends. The single USB cable with sealed strain relief provides a connection to both the keyboard buttons and FSR pointing device. An integrated 10-key numeric keypad adds to the utility. If fixed attachment is preferred, this keyboard contains four mounting points to provide easy system configuration and to satisfy applications with high vibration problems.
Many keyboard users operate within a set of constraints due to environmental and/or board functionality limitations. The toughened Grizzly Xtreme puts a powerful alternative in your hands.
