In 2004 OMLAT spa studied and realised several electric spindle applications for grinding, with the technical characteristic of having hydrostatic bushes instead of ball bearings.
This concept (an oil cushion with approx. 60 bar pressure) makes it possible to obtain a dynamic rigidity that is more than three times that obtained with the mechanical solution (ball bearings) and consequently guarantees a very high quality finish.
These spindles have been constructed for tangential grinding machines, for the large size bearings sector and for the rolling cylinder grinding sector.
Both asynchronous and synchronous motors have been used able to fully meet the project requirements regarding performance (power and rotation speed), together with a very low vibration level, appropriate for high-precision machining.
With the high rigidity obtained by this system, last generation tools can be used to full advantage, ensuring the best output and long life.

This is the designation of fluid-friction plain bearings, where pressurised fluid flows between metal surfaces and keeps them continuously at a distance. This permits to get a constant lift, both when the bearing is still and rotating at maximum speed, and the breakaway friction results to be almost null.
Thanks to their high load capacity and rigidity and slight sizes (spindles having the same sizes and using standard bearings cannot get the same performances), added to a high rotation accuracy, the hydrostatic lift bearings are typically used for external, cylindrical or surface grinding operations, with grinding wheel having big diameter > than 400 mm.
The hydrostatic-lift power spindles are widely used on test benches, where assemblies have to be put on rotation, and external vibrations and noise can upset the measurement of parameters characteristic of the tested product.

The Delta Line presented in this catalogue includes electrospindles for high speed milling operations that represent one of the best products available on the world market.
OMLAT has developed this line of electrospindles following the needs of tool machine manufacturers and paying particular attention to the reliability of the products.
Thanks to the study of the working cycles of different machines for aluminium, plastic, wood, composite materials and graphite working OMLAT has been able to design and build proper electrospindles for this kind of operations.
The rotation speed, the power and the torque, the tool attachment, the clamping system and the bearings are all factors that have been carefully considered with the aim to guarantee high performances and reliability of the electrospindles.

U-CENTER
U-CENTER are servo controlled heads for machining centres and specialized machines. Controlled by the U axis of the CNC,.the U-CENTER can perform facing and back-facing, cylindrical and conical boring, threading, concave and convex radius machining and complex profiles, by the interpolation of the other machine axes. The servo driven gear box is mounted next to the spindle of the machining centre and the control, guarantees the control of the tool slide feed and the tool position. The U-DRIVE is composed of: a servomotor, a transducer, a set of limit switches and a coupling system for the U-CENTER head. The heads are available in 4 models: UC140/BH - UC160/BH - UC180/BH - UC200/BH, all of them with internal coolant supply and counterweights for balancing.

Tool-changeable NC axes for machining centres:
The freely programmable KomTronic® U-Axis system make any contour and turning operations possible on non-rotationally symmetrical parts.
Combined with custom-made front tools and the optimum selection of inserts, contours in bores and external machining operations can be successfully carried out. This allows a considerable reduction in production times, with better surface quality and greater accuracy of form.
Further savings in time and costs can also be achieved by reducing the number of tools previously required - for example, circular milling a complex internal contour with various form milling tools. The saving in form milling tools and tool changes this achieves also reduces production time and production costs.
Greatly reduced processing times and higher precision
KomTronic® U-Axis systems essentially consist of one compact facing head with single slide that is driven by a servo motor and threaded spindle. The power supplied to the electronics and the drive is transmitted contactfree and inductively to the U-Axis system. Similarly, the data is exchanged inductively with the U-Axis system.

In order to accomplish the complete processing of workpieces on a centre lathe, there are machines, whose acquisition is extremely complex very expensively and programming. Our proposal for solution aims there that with a relatively simple accessory equipment, which can be to a large extent completely finished worked on turned parts. This accessory equipment, briefly “MILLINGFIXED” mentioned, can both on conventional and cycle-steered centre lathes, simply post and/or. are rigged. To temporary storage facilities of turned parts, renewed rigging to a second machine, double expenditure of time, as well as high acquisition value are allotted. Complex programming and an impaired work space are omitted likewise by the employment “MILLINGFIXED”. We are convinced of the fact that this innovative solution will be for manufacturing and repair shops relating to crafts, as well as very useful for school and training in particular.
