Surge Arresters are an essential aid to insulation coordination in electrical power supply systems. Valuable equipment can be protected against lightning- and switching overvoltages.
If basic rules are kept, modern Metal Oxide Surge Arresters offer complete protection against overvoltages. In addition they offer a failure rate of nearly 0% and a lifetime of more than 20 years.
Costs of Surge Arresters in electrical power supply systems are less than 1% of the worth of the equipment they protect.Costs of Surge Arresters in electrical power supply systems are less than 1% of the worth of the equipment they protect.
High availability and low costs of Surge Arresters facilitate new applications like Surge Arresters for transmission lines. As the result Surge Arresters convince with a quality improvement of electrical power supply systems.

3EQ Surge Arresters:
Your Reliable, Sturdy and Economic Choice
3EQ surge arresters are virtually indestructible. While their tube design provides the highest possible mechanical strength and enables them to support high bending moments, the silicone rubber insulation is ideal for outdoor applications in severe environmental conditions. No matter how tough the environmental or operating conditions may be, our 3EQ arresters assures a 100 % reliable pressure relief performance, they provide the ultimate in protection. They are break-proof and retain at least 75 % of their mechanical strength even after pressure relief. They provide the greatest stability, even in earthquakes.

ETITEC over voltage arresters are intended for protection of electrical installations and devices against overvoltage
effects, which may occur in atmospheric discharges and switching overvoltages. The main part of overvoltage arrester
is ZnO non - linear varistor. Its main characteristic is ohmic non-linearity, which depends strongly on the applied
voltage at the clamps. All arresters have modular construction, a special feature is interchanging varistor part and
visual signalization for varistor thermical failure. The signalization is made with red flag, which appeares when failure
occurs. The models with RC mark equipped with auxiliary contacts for signalization.

DE type modular overvoltage arresters protect electrical systems against overvoltage which may occur in the power supply circuit during a storm (lightning) or during coupling to the network (industrial interferences).
Protection is provided by high energy gas tube which is able to channel currents of up to 150 kA to earth without incurring damage. In association with DGV type arrester, it provides a very efficient common and differential surge protection for AC networks following the “CT2” configuration in IEC60364-5-534.

GE TRANQUELL® arresters are designed and tested in
accordance with ANSI/IEEE C62.11 and IEC 99-4[2,3].
The standard TRANQUELL arrester consists of a stack
of metal oxide disks mounted in a sealed housing.
Each disk is wedged in place offering protection against
physical damage during shipment and installation.
On the end faces of each disk, a conducting surface
is applied to assure proper contact and uniform current distribution.
TRANQUELL arresters provide exceptional overvoltage
protection of major power system equipment.
Under normal system conditions, the arrester conducts
less than one milliampere. When a surge reaches the arrester,
the arrester conducts only the current necessary to limit
the overvoltage. As a result, TRANQUELL arresters absorb
minimum energy to protect equipment insulation.

These cabinets have been specially designed to facilitate the use of twin protection overvoltage arresters (primary and secondary).
They are made up of :
- a primary protection stage using DGA 70 kA overvoltage arresters
- a secondary protection stage using DGX 10 kA overvoltage arresters
- an inductive co-ordination resistor designed to uncouple the two protection stages
- an overvoltage arrester protection breaker
The pre-wired sub-assembly is set in a lockable metal cabinet. An LED display on the cabinet door shows the voltage and operational status of each overvoltage arrester.

Even small overvoltages can disable sensitive electronic equipment, computer networks and computer-controlled production systems in fractions of a second. For protection against overvoltages which can result from lightning or switching processes in electrical supply networks, OBO offers a wide range of surge and lightning arresters for the German and international markets. These include not only devices to protect AC networks of various voltage levels, but also special systems for data lines and telecommunication devices, and protective modules for process measurement and control systems.
With the new LightningControllern, OBO presents innovative lightning protection systems with patented multi-carbon technology in the new VBS catalogue. The first modular spark gap for perfect integration into distribution systems. The great advantage of the new units is that they have a fully encapsulated housing. This means no more arcing! This eliminates the risk of fires in the distribution box due to sparking.
The OBO range of systems for external and internal lightning protection is also complete. All components have passed the tests imposed by the Lightning Protection and EMC Technology Centre in Menden and have the corresponding test marks and certificates.

Maximum protection Siemens gas-insulated, metal-enclosed arresters (GIS arresters) provide maximum protection for gasinsulated switchgear (GIS) and transformers. The reasons are twofold: On the one hand, GIS arresters can be installed very close to the object to be protected, which is important wherever they are fed by long cables, for instance. In this way, over-voltages caused by traveling waves can effectively be minimized. On the other hand, the low self-inductance of GIS arresters provides the best conceivable protection against high rate-of-rise voltages, which are particularly critical for gas-insulated equipment.
