Automatic refractometers are used in the food and beverage industry, in chemistry, pharmacy and many other branches for measurements of refractive index (nD) or of refractive index-derived concentrations. Refractive index measurements are fast, non-destructive and require only a small volume of sample. No extensive sample preparation is necessary.
The latest generation of Abbemat refractometers sets new standards regarding accuracy and versatility.
Due to modern data processing and innovative optical design a resolution of 0.000001 nD is achieved. The measuring ranges are 1.32 to 1.56 nD (HP model) and 1.30 to 1.72 nD (WR model), allowing refractive index measurements of organic solvents, perfumes and aromas.
Within an interval of 10-70 °C an internal Peltier supplier of thermostat adjusts the temperature of the measuring prism at an accuracy of ±0.03 °C, so that no additional external thermocirculator is required. The stability of the temperature adjustment is ±0.002 °C.
The measuring unit is housed in a water-proof enclosure made of stainless steel containing the optics and the electronics of the instrument. Its small size saves valuable bench space in the laboratory.
A personal computer is used as an intelligent terminal offering easy operation combined with best performance. From a continuously growing number of professional scales the required scale can be selected or be defined by the user. User management, several measuring modes, easy calibration possibilities as well as GLP-conform data recording round up the features of the Abbemat.

Mode of operation:
The COLORCONTROL measuring head contains an opto-transmitter, a photo-detector and an evaluation electronic module. The product is moved under and past the measuring head and is illuminated by monochromatic professional laser light. The share of this light reflected by the product is detected and electronically evaluated. Uneven product surfaces are compensated by ave raging. Different surface gloss of the product is largely suppressed by optical measures. The measured value is indicated on a digital display and is also output as both an analogue and a digital value for further processing. Description
The DynoSense 300 is a high scan rate interrogation system for monitoring Fibre Bragg grating sensors. The system is a result of a joint development between XenICs and FOS&S.
The DynoSense 300 can monitor up to 40 FBGs and supports three function modes:
Wavelength mode: in this mode the wavelengths of the different FBGs are recorded as function of time at a scan rate of 3,3 kHz
Spectrum mode: this mode allows to visualize the complete optical spectrum and is for instance of interest for diagnostics of the sensing network
Fast Fourier Transform mode: in this mode the FFT of the recorded wavelength signals is online processed
