Expanding mandrels are the ideal solution to many workholding problems. By holding parts on most of the datum bore (or outside diameter in the case of a collet chuck) the clamping forces are evenly distributed, reducing distortions during part manufacture.
Mandrels also provide a superior method of holding parts which are high volume, have short cycle times or require the highest levels of concentricity.
Craftsman manufacture expanding mandrels tailored to your exact specifications. Many different mounting styles are available, including: spindle nose, between centres, Morse taper and faceplate. Different actuation methods can be used, such as drawbar, cantilever nut and front nut.
Every expanding mandrel or collet chuck supplied by Craftsman can have the following features:
Single taper sleeves
Positive clamping and release
High levels of concentricity – to 0.005 T.I.R
Controlled datums
Sleeve interchangeability
Generous expansion capacities
All of the above permit quick and secure clamping creating versatility and ease of use. |

- Every collet chuck comes with our exclusive "Power Coat" nut that holds up to 75% tighter than standard nuts. (greater holding force improves T.I.R., rigidity, and reduces tool slippage to extend collet life)
- Tolerance measured from taper O.D. to collet pocket I.D. is only 0.0001" (our competitors average 0.0002")
- Every collet chuck is lab tested and delivered with a full report documenting T.I.R., balance, taper, etc.
- Our standard precision collets feature T.I.R. of only 0.0004" (our competitors average 0.0006" - you gain 20% tool life)
- Each holder is factory balanced to 18,000 RPM @ G2.5 (great balance reduces vibration at all RPM's - saving toolife, spindle bearings, and improves surface finish)
- Each taper is precision ground to a tolerance of AT3 or better!

- flange opening is at top central position for easy operator
access, and to avoid the disassembly of the opening button
in the DX or SX safety chucks;
- a safety button first needs to be pushed in before the
flange will open. Designing the button to be pushed
eliminates potential accidental opening by centrifugal force.
- components are finished to a high quality, with the safety
flange being dynamically balanced and chrome plated as
standard.
- the inserts are replaceable and designed in a variety of
shapes and sizes such as alveolar, square, round-square. |

SPANNTOP chucks generally work based on the pull-back principle. The clamping head is coupled to the draw mechanism. The clamping cylinder pulls it via the drawtube into the taper of the chuck body. The link between the drawtube and the draw mechanism is the drawtube adapter. The drawtube adapter and the spindle flange are custom made to fit a specific machine.
SPANNTOP chucks are balanced.
All clamping heads have a slot for the locating screw.
All SPANNTOP chucks have stroke limits in both directions.
Rigidity, concentricity, ease of change-over - those are the extraordinary characteristics of SPANNTOP. And not only is this system developed by HAINBUCH incredibly simple to handle, it is also good for your bottom line.
SPANNTOP can be used on a wide variety of different machine tools. These include turning and milling centers, gear cutting, grinding, rotary transfer, or friction welding machines. In short, anywhere where holding power, rigidity, precision and ease of change-over are required. |
|
- 25 % better conversion of axial drawtube force to holding power than SPANNTOP
- No radial displacement between clamping head and chuck body, therefore excellent seal agaist dust, contamination and chips. Especially advantageous for dry and hard machining.
- Unequalled rigidity due to full-surface contact of the clamping segments
- Vibration dampening due to cast mineral composite
- Increased process reliability and low surface pressure; ideal for continuous processing of large quantities
- Fast an easy clamping head change-over

Modern machines and tools have greater demands on tool holders. Particulary if cemented carbide endmills and drills are used at very high speed, where a very low run-out is required to achieve long toollife.
CoroGrip® and HydroGrip® fulfil all the demands on a tool holder for HSM.
Three requirements have to be fulfilled when using holders with cemented carbide endmills or drills at high speed:
-Low run-out
-High clamping force
-Balanced holder
Every CoroGrip and HydroGrip chuck is individually balanced and they have an individual number and is delivered with a protocol. |

ITW Workholding offers a wide range of power chucks for special design applications. Products include:
Woodworth UBL (shown) - This is a ball chuck with offers pull down gripping. Available in centering and / or compesation style. The UBL provides 6 points of contact (3-jaw model) using jaws that conform to part differences
Woodworth ECC - This 6-jaw equalizing, counter centrifugal, chuck is used in applications where part tolerances are very tight. Where most chucks offer a 3 to 1 grip force ratio, the ECC offers a 2 to 1. This means you can have finer adjustments for grip force. Also, the standard feature of the counter centrifugal force compensation means you can run at higher speeds with less grip force loss.
Collet Chucks - Used in 2nd operation turning, ITW Workholding designs and builds special collet chucks which offer a wide range of solutions to your turning, milling or grinding requirements. |
