Since the spline shaft’s surface is provided with a mirror finish, smooth slide is achieved. In addition, the large contact area and the concentricity, which enables the center to be automatically determined as a torque is applied, allow the product to demonstrate stable torque transmission.

Eliminates Backlash, Reduces Friction
The NB Ball Spline is designed for mechanical applications which require both linear motion and torque transmission. The rolling contact of the balls eliminates backlash and reduces friction, helping you to achieve super precision and reliability.
The spline shaft facilitates additional machining and high accuracy because of a round shaft shape. Since the spline shaft is also machined by cylindrical grinding, it has a high sealing performance and a well-balanced structure that reduces the vibration and noise during rotary motion. Moreover, it has great geometrical moment of inertia and high rigidity. This enables a long-term, high precision linear motion.

Unlike gears, splines only apply the transmission of power on the same axis. In Arrow’s products, most splines are used on shafts and internal diameters of gearing for the purpose of mounting.
Arrow’s size range and capabilities for Splines are provided in the table below.
Maximum Pitch Diameter – 20”
Diametral Pitch – 4/8 – 80/160
Face Width – 13.0
Unground Tooth – AGMA Q9
Ground Tooth – AGMA Q13

Ball spline is a linear motion mechanism utilizing the rotational motion of ball elements.
It can be used in a wide variety of applications including robotics and transport type equipment.
Structure and advantage :
The ball spline consists of a spline shaft with raceway grooves and a spline nut. The spline nut consists of an outer cylinder (main body),retainer, side rings, and ball elements. Designed and manufactured to achieve a reliably smooth motion.
High Load Capacity and Long Travel Life:
The raceway grooves are machined to a radius close to that of the ball elements. The large ball contact surface results in high load capacity and long travel life.
Wide Variety of Configurations:
A total of 16 shafts with diameters ranging from 4mm to 100mm are available. Seven different types of nuts to 100mm are available. Seven different types of nuts are available:
- cylindrical types (SSP/SSPM),
- flange types (SSPF/SSPT),
- block types (SPA/SPAW/SSPB)
- Rotary ball-spline (SPR)

BIKO lock type Linear Ball Spline is a linear motion rolling guide, featuring a slide unit which performs endless linear motion along a spline shaft. Two rows of steel balls are arranged in four point contact with the raceways. This design ensures stable high accuracy and rigidity in operations even under fluctuating loads with changing direction and magnitude or complex loads.
Features:
Interchangeable
All models in this series are interchangeable specification products. The dimensions of slide units and spline shafts are individually controlled, so that the spline shafts and slide units can be combined, added or exchanged freely.
Easy mounting
The slide unit is provided with threaded mounting holes for easy mounting on machines or equipment with bolts.
Stainless steel type
The stainless steel type has excellent corrosion resistance and is most suitable for machines and equipment used in clean environments, for example, medical equipment, measuring instruments, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Hollow shaft
In high carbon steel type, hollow shafts are also available in addition to solid shafts. The hollow shafts are suitable for applications in which piping, wiring or ventilation is needed.

PowerTorq™ Ball Splines are convenient and efficient devices that allow friction free linear motion while transmitting torque. Because of their reliability and high efficiency, they are utilized to replace conventional splines. In a ball spline assembly, recirculating bearing balls carry the load between the rotating member (inner race) and the rotating/sliding member (outer race).
Inner races are made of high quality 4150 alloy steel, induction hardened to Rc 56-60. Outer races are made of hardened steel with ball tracks heat treated to Rc 58-60. Ball spline inner and outer races are protected with a black oxide finish.
