Heat shrink tubing provides electrical insulation and strain relief for cable splices, wires, terminations and even electrical devices. It contracts when heated and forms a uniform insulation covering. It can also be used to bundle wires together for cable fastening and organization.
ApplicationsHeat shrink tubing is used in any electrical application involving bare or exposed wires and terminations. Heat shrink tubing can also be adhesive-lined to environmentally seal and protect a wide variety of electrical systems, including wire splices, terminations, breakouts and connector-to-cable parts.
TechnologiesTubing material varies with operating temperature. Materials such as polyolefin, fluoropolymer, polyvinylidene fluoride, neoprene, or silicone are all used for different heat shrink applications. Such tubing can help to identify or color-code wires, cables and electronic components. Transparent versions are used for cable bundling and protection where visual inspection is required.
