Your suggestions for improvement:
A DC drive controls the speed of a direct current motor. The drive/motor combination constitutes a servomotor.
ApplicationsIndustrial uses include the control of motorized machinery, robotics, ventilation and electric vehicle propulsion.
TechnologiesThese drives use a chopper to control variable-speed DC motors. The motors are brushless and use series or shunt permanent magnets, or separate excitation. The excitation signal is usually furnished by an H bridge using power transistors or thyristors, and pulse-width modulation (PWM).
Drives operate in one or several quadrants. Thus, they can brake the motor via energy dissipation or recovery, and reverse its rotation. They usually have inputs allowing use of a tachometer generator or the induced voltage, to ensure speed control.
They are protected against overcurrent due to a short circuit. Minimum and maximum speed, slippage, acceleration and deceleration can be governed by adjustment potentiometers. Certain drives can be controlled via Profibus, CC-Link, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, CANopen or Modbus field network.
Choice will depend on the number of control quadrants and the current range.
