How to choose this product
Wire-wound resistors are composed of a lead or of a corrugated metallic ribbon rolled on a ceramic support. They are used with powerful currents and can heat up dramatically. The winding is covered by a maintenance coating. The alloy the wire is composed of is chosen for the stability of its temperature resistivity.
Wire-bound resistors are used in high-power devices and in electrical installations. They are used for anti-harmonic filtering, for grounding, for motor braking and starting, for charging and discharging condensors, and for heating.
Resistors coated with silicone or vitrified enamel are well-sealed. Resistors with fire cement coating withstand thermal constraints very well. Resistors with corrugated ribbons have excellent dissipative abilities that allow high amperage and low inductance values.
The resistive coil is usually made of a copper-nickel alloy or nickel chrome alloy, or of an iron-chromium-aluminum alloy in the case of a corrugated ribbon. Some wire-bound resistor models feature an intermediary terminal. It can be mobile, and be fixed with a tightening and contact unit on a bare side. A rheostat is also a wire-bound resistance.
Some wire-bound resistors are flat and minimum-size, and can be associated with a heat sink.
How to choose
The resistance value, the bearable current and power, the dimensions and the fixation elements are to be considered. Saddles, terminals, fasteners, clips and fittings are also essential elements to consider.
