Wirewound power resistor in aluminium housing for continuous high power
The MAL power resistors are designed for applications where continuous high power and a wide resistance range are required. The wirewound resistor is built on a ceramic substrate and integrated into a robust aluminium housing, which provides mechanical protection and high durability. Depending on the type, graded power ratings of 5 W, 10 W, 25 W and 50 W are available, allowing the appropriate resistor to be selected for different power requirements.
The resistance range from 0.01 Ω to 250 kΩ and resistance tolerances from ±0.01% to ±10% cover a very wide range of tasks – from low-ohmic shunt and load resistors up to precise resistors in the higher kΩ range. A typical temperature coefficient of ±20 ppm/°C ensures low temperature drift, which is beneficial for current measurement, reference branches or stable load conditions. The operating temperature range from −55 °C to +275 °C allows use in thermally demanding environments, for example in power, converter and drive electronics.
Optional low-inductance windings reduce parasitic inductance and enable use in fast switching power stages or measurement paths with higher bandwidth. Another option is the 4-wire (Kelvin) connection, which allows precise current and voltage measurement directly at the resistor, without the influence of lead and track resistance. This makes the MAL series particularly suitable as a shunt resistor for current measurement, as a braking and load resistor, or as a precision power resistor in power supplies, converters and motor drives.
