OverviewARCAL™ R1-2 is a user-friendly shielding gas specifically formulated for austenitic stainless steels. Designed for TIG welding, it reduces welding time compared with pure argon. The controlled hydrogen content stabilizes the arc and facilitates manual parameter adjustments.
PerformanceARCAL™ R1-2 produces compact, low-oxidation weld beads. Austenitic stainless steels show no susceptibility to cold cracking. The 2.4% hydrogen content increases welding speed without degrading the base material properties. The reducing effect of hydrogen enhances bead brightness and reduces passivation time.
Ease of useARCAL™ R1-2 is the reference shielding gas for high-quality TIG welding on thin austenitic stainless steel sections. Hydrogen increases penetration and travel speed, saving time in welding and passivation operations. Suitable for manual, automated and robotic welding. Manual welding parameters are simple to set thanks to hydrogen’s arc-stabilizing and high-temperature effects and its reducing character that limits bead oxidation. Supplied standard with SMARTOP™; optional EXELTOP™ head with integrated regulator. Packaging options from single cylinders to large-volume frames.
