Product OverviewFEP-encapsulated O-rings consist of an FEP outer jacket over an elastomeric core (Silicone, Viton or EPDM) to deliver chemical inertness at the sealing surface while retaining the energizing and recovery properties of the elastomer core. They are intended for sealing in aggressive chemical and wide temperature environments.
Materials and ConstructionThe component is manufactured with an extruded or molded FEP jacket fully encapsulating a continuous elastomer core. Core options (Silicone, Viton/FKM, EPDM) are selected according to required temperature range and chemical compatibility.
Key Benefits- Chemical resistance at the sealing interface provided by the FEP outer layer.
- Elastomer core supplies energizing force and recovery after compression.
- Combines PTFE-like inertness with elastomer resilience for improved sealing performance vs solid PTFE.
Why Encapsulated O-Rings are neededIn processes with aggressive solvents, acids or extreme temperatures, conventional rubber O-rings may degrade while solid PTFE lacks required elasticity. Encapsulated O-rings provide a chemically inert sealing surface with an elastic core to ensure reliable compression set resistance and sealability.
Applications- Agitated Nutsch Filter Dryer (ANFD)
- Reactors and agitation vessels
- Solvent container and drum lids
- Centrifuge lids and seals
Technical characteristics / specifications- Outer material: FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene).
- Elastomer core options: Silicone, Viton (FKM), EPDM.
- Approx. temperature range (depending on core): -75°F to +400°F (-60°C to +205°C).
- Primary properties: chemical inertness at the surface, elastomeric energizing and recovery, suitability for aggressive chemical environments.
- Benefit vs solid PTFE: retains chemical resistance while providing elastomeric sealing action for improved joint reliability.
