Description

Presentation
Designed for level control in explosive atmospheres (zones 0, 1, 2 gas and 20, 21, 22 dust), the SOBA EX ATEX-certified level regulator features a double-watertight HR HY (High Resistance Hypalon) press-vulcanised biconical housing suitable for aggressive and corrosive liquids. Supplied with a 250 g resin-loaded ballast adjustable on the cable, it adapts to different fluid densities and optimises the float pivot point. The device must be installed with an intrinsic safety relay.

Operating principle
The SOBA EX operates by tilt detection: the float follows the liquid level and actuates an internal mechanical microswitch when the set level is reached, opening or closing the circuit (fill or drain mode). The cable contains three conductors (COM, NO, NC) for wiring selection. Two floats of the same type can be used together to control minimum and maximum levels.

Modes of operation
  • Drain mode: at high position the float switches to start the pump (overflow protection). When the tank is empty the switch opens to stop the pump.
  • Fill mode: at low position the switch closes (NC) and the pump starts to fill the tank (dry-run protection).

Installation and ballast positioning
The switching point varies with liquid agitation, flow and especially the ballast position on the cable. The cable length between the ballast and the switch determines the travel required to change state. The supplied 250 g resin ballast is adjustable by unclipping it from its locking ring/O‑ring and repositioning it on the cable. Indicative values: min Y = 10 cm → X 25–30 cm; max Y = 30 cm → X 45–50 cm.
