This boring bar allows otherwise impossible machining (radial facing beyond the bore), concentricity accuracy and repeatability of machined diameters. It is a dedicated tool but also adaptable to similar machining operations. Why the project The need to solve functional problems (because of weight, or design), forces automotive engineers to design elements with very complex shapes. Whoever has to produce these parts has to solve considerable machining problems, also in relation to delivery times, high quality standards and not least has to achieve the best possible combination of production factors to reduce production costs. Our customer, who had to turn an internal groove with a very special shape, found it impossible to use standard tools. With the realization of the boring bar illustrated in the photo, designed according to the geometry of the quarry and the machines at his disposal, he solved the machining problem, achieving results in line with his expectations.
