OverviewAluminum thermostat-controlled ATEX Cabinet Cooler Systems are engineered and approved for use with purged electrical enclosures in ATEX-zoned areas (Zones 2 and 22). Systems use vortex tube technology to generate cold air without moving parts, include a water/dirt filter separator to prevent condensate and contaminants entering the enclosure, and supply a cold air distribution kit to direct air for circulation or to specific hot spots. Thermostat-controlled units are factory-set at 95°F (35°C) and activate the cooler only when internal temperatures approach critical levels. Units are CE compliant and intended for use in combination with purged and pressurized control systems.

How It WorksCompressed air enters the vortex-tube powered Cabinet Cooler and is separated into hot and cold streams. Hot air is muffled and exhausted; cold air is discharged into the control cabinet via the cold air distribution kit. Exhaust is maintained at a slight positive pressure so outside air cannot enter the panel, providing both cooling and purging of the enclosure.
Other Considerations- Filtration: systems include a 5-micron automatic-drain water and dirt filter to protect electronics. If oil is present in the supply, use a coalescing (oil-removal) filter.
- Cold Air Distribution Kit: includes flexible tubing, adhesive clips and fittings to direct cold air to hot spots.
- Humidity: continuous-operation systems stabilize relative humidity inside the enclosure at ~45% with no internal condensation (enclosure must be sealed).
- Inlet Air Temperature: Cabinet Coolers yield approximately a 54°F (30°C) drop from supply air temperature at 100 PSIG; higher inlet temperatures or lower pressures reduce cooling capacity.
- Mounting: install through a standard electrical knockout; side-mount kits available to maintain enclosure rating for side installation.
- Thermostat Control: standard thermostat factory set at 95°F (35°C); ATEX-certified solenoid valves and thermostats are available for thermostat-controlled systems.
