General descriptionGlass furnace products. Glass Service has developed a proven technology for the production of neutral and borosilicate glass. Glass Service supplies complete furnaces and equipment for the manufacture and installation of neutral/borosilicate glass lines dedicated to pharmaceutical tubes, containers and other high‑temperature glass products.
Technology and applicationBorosilicate and neutral glass furnaces are available with natural gas or heavy oil firing. Both fuels are used in oxy‑fuel and recuperative configurations. Due to the high melting temperatures, oxy‑fuel melting is recommended for many applications; several oxy‑fuel furnaces have been successfully commissioned.
Furnace refractory and materialsThe refractory design uses AZS materials in the superstructure and special high‑zirconium or chrome refractories for the most critical zones. Recuperative furnace designs incorporate dedicated metallic recuperators.
Capacity and forehearthFurnace capacities range from 8 tpd to 40 tpd and can be supplied with various forehearth technology options. Because melting temperatures can reach up to 1640 °C, refractories and downstream machinery are designed for high‑temperature operation.
Machines and accessories- Batch chargers: screw‑type units with specific technical features.
- Burners: constructed from special heat‑resistant steel.
- Electric boosting: molybdenum electrodes arranged in independent heating sections.
- Water‑cooled bubbling system: special design for easier maintenance and reduced bottom wear.
Materials recommendationFor stable and consistent production, the use of precious materials (platinum/rhodium) is recommended to reduce refractory corrosion and improve process stability and product quality.
