Introduction
We offer conversion of V-belt transmissions to Hutchinson ribbed (Poly V) belt transmissions.

THE EFFICIENCY OF THE TRANSMISSION
  • Higher power transmission through continuous, uniform cord construction.
  • Increased contact surface compared with conventional V-belts.

EFFICIENCY DETAILS
Poly V belts typically achieve an operational efficiency around 98% under similar tension and geometry, reducing electrical consumption and potentially allowing smaller motor sizing.

THE COMPACTNESS OF THE TRANSMISSION
  • Higher transmission ratios possible (example: ribbed belt 1:60 vs V-belt 1:20), which can eliminate staged pulleys.
  • Smaller minimum pulley diameters for ribbed profiles compared with V-belt profiles.
  • Reduced transmission weight: tensioners may be unnecessary.
  • Narrower belt width for equivalent power transfer with matching geometry.

FLEXIBILITY & INSTALLATION
Poly V belts can operate in flexion and counter-flexion with the following benefits:
  • A single belt may drive multiple accessories (serpentine installation).
  • Accessories can be driven from the back of the belt.

EFFICIENCY (TENSION STABILITY)
  • Stable tension: monobloc design avoids matching requirements and differential flapping seen with multiple V-belts.
  • Belt aging does not result in significant loss of transmitted power.

COST REDUCTIONS
  • Lower component dimensions: reduced pulley diameters and widths; potential elimination of tensioners when using Flexonic®.
  • Lower transmission weight.
  • Shorter belt lengths.
  • Possible elimination of inertia flywheels in some applications.
  • Simpler pulley machining: Poly V can be used on smooth pulleys (receivers).

  • Rapid setup: 1 PM Poly V can replace up to 25 SPB V-belts.
