Description

Product overview
The EK 160 Heavy Excavator Chain Cutter is intended for continuous heavy-duty cutting where ground or material resistance is consistently high. Designed for sustained operation and torque stability, it mounts on 35–50 t excavators and runs at a controlled speed (≈60 rpm). The unit handles materials up to 120 MPa uniaxial compressive strength and combines a substantial structural mass (3,650–3,800 kg) with a large torque reserve to provide repeatable cutting behaviour in high-resistance environments.

Benefits
  • Reduced energy use versus inefficient swinging or impact methods (up to 40% in comparable conditions)
  • Proven cutting capability on high-resistance rock and reinforced concrete up to 120 MPa UCS
  • Durability for abrasive and high-contact-pressure operations
  • Hydraulic layout optimised for sustained heavy-duty cycles (see recommended oil flow ranges)

Key features & technical advantages
  • High torque and cutting force: torque and force ratings support stable penetration in dense rock and reinforced materials
  • Controlled mechanical speed for stability: reduced rotational speed maintains consistent chain engagement with lower vibration and shock than impact tools
  • Optimised structural configuration: attachment mass and geometry increase stability under high cutting loads
  • Durable pick & chain system engineered for abrasive conditions

Performance highlights
  • Operating principle: continuous chain cutting between drums distributes force gradually and reduces shock
  • Recommended operating speed: approx. 60 rpm (some technical displays reference 65 rpm)
  • Designed for sustained, controlled cutting cycles rather than short aggressive bursts
